Stalking in Scotland - Holiday Packages

Woodmill Shootings has in excess of 30,000 acres (12,000 hectares) of stalking in Tayside and Fife.  The stalking is predominantly for roe deer, but we also have red and fallow deer.

During the Roe Buck season the day starts at 4.30am with a light breakfast before leaving for the morning stalk.  We return mid-morning for brunch and a rest.  Early supper is taken at 6pm before evening stalking.  In the winter during the Roe Doe season stalking times are a little more civilised, starting at 6am and the evening meal at 8pm after the evening stalk.

Our packages are for 2 hunters, with or without companions, fully residential at our extremely comfortable country house, Woodmill (see Accommodation page).

It is important to mention that here at Woodmill Shootings we choose not to hunt, shoot or fish on Sundays, and we prefer all holidays to start on a Monday or Tuesday.

4 & 5 day Roe Buck Hunt

(April 1st – October 20th)
You will be hunting over varied terrain, from open farmland to forest and hill margins. There are two outings per day, starting at first light until mid morning when breakfast is taken and then again in the evening until last light. The middle of the day is yours to relax or site seeing.

We hope that you have the chance of one roebuck per day although this cannot be guaranteed. Sometimes you may exceed this and others you may not have a shot.

Your guides are experienced and will try to select mature and older animals only. They will discus with you the merits of each animal you observe, but their decision on what to shoot is final.

We have two distinct hunting areas, East Lothian to the south of Edinburgh and Tayside and Fife to the north of Edinburgh.

East Lothian has a higher population of roe with a great variation in trophy size and shape. The trophies tend to be lighter in weight than in Tayside meaning fewer medal class bucks, but equal often in dimension to the Tayside heads.

Tayside and Fife suit the more discerning hunter who is looking for the chance of medal class bucks. We have averaged 20% medal class heads over the past 5 years. Chances to stalk here are limited.

Mixed Hunt for Bucks and Stags

A stalking holiday to sample the 4 indigenous species of Scottish deer, red, roe, fallow & sika.

Timing is crucial as the rut is the best time for hunting red, fallow & sika and to co-ordinate them there is only a small window in mid October.

The Red & Sika stag and roe buck season finishes on 20th October whilst the Fallow runs until. The Fallow rut is just starting as the season ends for red & sika.

Hunting tends to be an all day affair very often starting at first light and finishing at dusk.

The best time for this hunt is 10th – 20th October.

Please contact us for full details and prices.
